Strains are one of the most reported work related injury.  Many back strains are caused by lifting too much weight, lifting improperly or lifting in an awkward position.  Shoulder strains are common as well.  Again, working in an awkward position or moving too much weight are often the cause of the injury.  A frequent cause of shoulder injury is trying to catch a falling heavy object.  Many times this is an instinctive action.

Preventing back injuries is harder than it sounds because we are constantly using our back.  Several tips for preventing back injuries include:  use mechanical assist devices when available, ask for help, don’t lift more than 50 pounds, use proper lifting technique.

Several ways to prevent shoulder injuries include stretching before work begins, exercise to increase strength, rest/recover, change your sleeping position.
