Heat Related Illness

Heat exhaustion and heat stroke are common work related injuries.  Knowing the signs and symptoms are key to preventing serious injury.

Heat exhaustion is when your body loses too much water and salt through sweating.  Symptoms include: dizziness, headache, sweaty skin, fast heartbeat, vomiting, weakness and cramps.

Heat stroke is when your body can’t cool down and is a very serious health condition.  Symptoms include: confusion, fainting, seizures, high body temperature, dry/clammy skin.

The keys to preventing heat related illness include drinking water every 15 minutes, periodic rest breaks and resting in the shade or air conditioning.
