Shop Hazards

Forklifts

Pedestrians are often injured by forklifts in the shop.  Either the operator does not see them or the pedestrian is working too close to the forklift.  Pedestrians frequently walk into the path of a moving forklift.

To prevent pedestrian forklift injuries workers must make themselves visible to the forklift operator.

  • Make eye contact with the forklift operator.
  • Wait until the forklift operator acknowledges you before you proceed.
  • Work a safe distance from the forklift.

Pedestrians should always be aware of their surroundings.  In areas where forklift frequently operate, always keep your head up and look where you are going. Don’t get distracted by using a cell phone or trying to read paperwork.  Never move in a way that assumes the forklift operator will anticipate your action.
