Shop Hazards

Eye Injuries

Eye injuries are a common work related injury, particularly in a shop environment.  These type injuries can be serious, life changing events resulting in disfigurement and loss of earning potential.

Not wearing eye protection increases the chance of eye injuries.  This includes not wearing safety glasses, not wearing the appropriate personal protective equipment for the job or thinking that prescription glasses provide adequate protection.

To prevent eye injuries in the shop, wear the correct eye protection for the job.  This might include safety glasses, safety glasses and a face shield or safety goggles.  Regular prescription glasses are not impact resistant and do not provide the same protection as safety glasses.  Prescription glasses also do not provide side protection.  Slide on side protectors are not appropriate for long term use.
