Ladder Inspection

Prevent falls from ladders

Inspect the ladder for:

  • Broken rungs or rails
  • Loose nails, bolts or screws
  • Wood splinters or damaged edges
  • Cracked, broken, split, dented or worn rungs, cleats or side rails
  • Corrosion of metal ladders or metal parts
  • Excessive wear on pulleys, ropes and locks on extension ladders
  • Worn non-skid surface of footings and pads on extension ladders

If a damaged ladder is identified:

  • The ladder should be tagged as unsafe and taken out of service
  • If the ladder cannot be repaired, make sure the ladder is dispose of properly
