Traffic Safety

A flagger was working on a road construction site with other workers paving the eastbound lane of a highway.  As he was flagging traffic, a motorist did not see him or was not paying attention and struck the flagger.  He fractured his leg and ended up in the hospital.

It is important to remember these tips:

  • Always wear high visibility clothing, including vests, arm bands and hats
  • Be aware of your surroundings and potential hazards
  • Stay out of lanes where walking is prohibited
  • Ensure you are aware and understand hand signals
  • Listen for reverse signal alarms of equipment
  • Use traffic control devices such as:
    • Signs
    • Warning signals
    • Paddles
    • Concrete barriers
