Fall Protection – Preventing Falls from Rooftops
Two construction workers were on a roof of a building about 20 feet above ground. One of the workers suddenly slipped and nearly slid off the edge of the rooftop. He was wearing body harness, which was attached to a lifeline. This stopped his fall.
Here are some important tips to remember:
- Wear your fall protection at all time while working of a roof and other areas where the distance to ground or another surface is greater than 6 feet
- Know that roofing slide guards are not fall protection
- Inspect your fall arrest equipment for damage
- Remove fall arrest equipment from service if damaged or worn
- Ask for adding permanent anchorages during roofing operations
- Connect to anchorage point supporting 5000 pounds per worker attached
