Cold Weather Safety

A laborer was working on a job site in the winter.  One day, he left his gloves and warm coat at home.  As the day went on, he became so cold that he began to shiver.  Later, he was having trouble holding his tools and doing his work.

It is important to remember these tips:

  • Wear clothes for cold, wet and windy weather
  • Dress in loose fitting layers to adapt to temperatures
  • Keep your head, hands and feet covered and dry
  • Drink plenty of warm, sweet beverages
  • Avoid drinks with caffeine and alcohol
  • Take breaks often in heated areas to warm-up
  • Get medical help when symptoms of hypothermia:
    • Shivering
    • Fatigue
    • Loss of coordination
    • Confusion or disorientation
