Machine Safeguarding Basics
Unsafe actions can result in severe injuries:
- Never reach around, under, over or through guards
- Never remove or bypass a guard
- Never reach into equipment to remove stuck or jammed material
- Never perform repairs or maintenance activities for which you have not been authorized and/or properly trained to do
- Always follow lockout/tagout procedures
- Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment
- Always follow the correct procedures for servicing and/or repairing machines
Hazards created by industrial equipment can cause death or severe injury including amputations, fractures, cuts, crushing injuries, burns and electric shock. Machine safeguarding is critical to keeping employees safe from dangerous equipment. Never operate a machine that is not properly guarded.
